The Los Angeles Kings have signed defenceman Alec Martinez to a six-year contract extension. TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie is reporting the extension is worth $24 million. In 18 games with the Kings this season the 27-year-old Martinez has scored two goals and added five assists. Martinez was slated to become an unrestricted free agent at seasons end. The Kings originally selected Martinez in the fourth round (95th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in 221 career games with the Kings, scoring 25 goals and 37 assists.
