FLORIANOPOLIS, Brazil -- FIFA says it is concerned about security challenges during the World Cup in Brazil but isnt afraid of being targeted by public demonstrations expected in June. "FIFA is not coming now with less people. Instead, we are increasing our staff during the World Cup, obviously, and we are not hiding our brand," director of security Ralf Mutschke said on Thursday. "FIFA is not feeling as a target and we are not hiding ourselves or our symbol. We are proud to be here and to celebrate the World Cup." Footballs governing body was satisfied with the high level of security that will be provided by Brazilian authorities, said Mutschke, who guaranteed FIFA "is highly committed to ensuring the safety and security for fans, players and any other stakeholder involved in our event." Mutschke was at a workshop in the southern city of Florianopolis, where Brazilian officials made security presentations to representatives of all 32 teams, telling them and FIFA what to expect when they return in a few months. "It is pretty easy to be concerned about the fate of the World Cup when you are reading, for example, reportings on ongoing public demonstrations, the lamentable scenes of fan violence, the apprehension in regards to street crime, child prostitution or drug trafficking," Mutschke said. "There is no doubt about it, FIFA and the local organizing committee is condemning any form of violence. We just do not accept it." The fears of violence stem from last Junes protests that erupted around Brazil against corruption, poor public services and the billions of dollars being spent on the World Cup and 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Many of the complaints were against FIFA, and at the time one of its clearly marked buses was damaged by protesters. Mutschke said the demonstrations are not directly linked to FIFA and are about greater demands from Brazilian people. "Obviously demonstrators took advantage that the World Cup and the whole world was looking to Brazil and they exploited the situation for all different reasons, as well as for the World Cup, for corruption, for spending too much money in the wrong direction and so on," he said. Protesters carrying banners saying "FIFA Go Away" were common last year, and were seen even on Wednesday when a few dozen demonstrators gathered outside the upscale resort which hosted the workshop. No matches were delayed during last years Confederations Cup, although protests raged near the stadiums. Police had to maintain a security ring around the stadiums that mostly kept protesters at bay, but on a few occasions groups did break through. "We saw during the Confederations Cup, when at one point we had one million people on the streets, that no match was interrupted, no fan was unable to get to a match and no team delegation faced any problems," said Andrei Rodrigues, one of the Brazilian governments officials in charge of security during major events. "It was a thorough test of public safety and it was considered a success." Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff said this week that Brazils armed forces could be called on to contain possible violent protests during the World Cup. Rodrigues reiterated that peaceful protests will not be prohibited at any point, but any acts of violence and vandalism will not be tolerated. Brazil is expected to use 150,000 professionals from security forces and armed forces during the World Cup. The total public investment in safety during the event is nearly $800 million, according to the justice ministry. Carmelo Martinez Jersey . -- LeGarrette Blount wasnt satisfied with three short touchdown runs, not against a team coming off the second greatest comeback in playoff history. Javy Guerra Jersey . -- Lara Gut of Switzerland regained the overall World Cup lead with Sundays super-G win in Lake Louise, Alta. Thats what he did over the past 2 1/2 years with the Washington Wizards. Wittmans approach helped turn the Wizards from pushover to playoff winners. Garry Templeton Jersey . - Dolphins safety Louis Delmas has been carted off the field with a right knee injury against the Ravens. Gene Tenace Jersey . The American secured his first back-to-back ATP match wins since June to leave Tsonga relying on his performance at next weeks Paris Masters to clinch one of the final three places for the season-ending event in London. Tsonga would have moved up one spot to No. 6 with a win over Querrey at the City of Arts and Sciences, but his serve deserted him in the second set as the 116th-ranked American broke twice to reach the quarter-finals.(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim aim to continue their recent mastery of the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday when they try to complete a three-game sweep of them at Rogers Centre.Los Angeles has beaten the Blue Jays in five of six meetings this season and on Wednesday, Mark Trumbo homered for the second straight game and Kole Calhoun offered two sacrifice flies to lift the Angels to a 5-4 win.Trumbo followed his 5-for-5 tilt on Tuesday with a second inning home run and Josh Hamilton went 3-for-3 with a run scored behind C.J. Wilson (16-6), who surrendered four runs -- three earned -- while striking out six over seven frames. Trout walked twice and scored a pair of runs as the Angels were winners for the sixth time in their last seven road games.Of all the things weve talked about this year that havent worked out, C.J. is on the other side of that ledger, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. Hes having just a terrific season, pitching deep into games. Hes going to be 200- plus innings again. Every stat you look at is terrific for him.Moises Sierra went 3-for-4 with a two doubles and a triple in the losing effort, just Torontos third loss in its last eight contests. The Jays only managed four hits as a team.R.A. Dickey lasted 5 1/3 innings, yielding four runs on seven hits before giving way to the Toronto bullpen.I thought he looked reaally sharp that first inning.ddddddddddddThen it was kind of hit or miss, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said of Dickey.Getting the call for the Angels on Thursday will be righty Garrett Richards, who is 6-6 with a 3.90 ERA. Richards won his second straight start on Saturday against Texas, as he allowed two runs (one earned) and six hits in seven innings.Everything hes done up to this point has made him the most prepared hes been for this opportunity in his life, Scioscia said. I think that going to the bullpen helped him a little bit, helped us at times. Getting back into the rotation the second time, it seems like its clicking for him better. I think everything happens for a reason, and I think he definitely trusts his stuff. He is 1-2 in four games (2 starts) versus the Jays with a 5.68 ERA.Toronto, meanwhile, will counter with lefty J.A. Happ, who is 4-5 with a 5.09 ERA. Happ snapped a three-start losing streak on Saturday, as he beat the Minnesota Twins, holding them to an unearned run in 5 2/3 innings. The gameplan was to come out and mix it up early and try to pound the strike zone, Happ said after his last outing, when the Blue Jays gave him a five-run lead in the first inning. Having a lead like that definitely helps. [The lead] is something you dont think about a ton, but youre definitely more loose and more confident to throw those pitches. ' ' '
