MONTREAL -- Marco Di Vaio could only sit and watch as the Montreal Impact lost their first three games of the Major League Soccer season. But now that Di Vaio and midfielder Andres Romero have served their three-game suspensions for a melee in a 2013 playoff game, the Italian striker is ready to get back to the business of scoring goals. "Ill try to bring something more, some experience, to the field," Di Vaio said Thursday. "I trained hard the last three weeks and I want to play." The scoring touch that saw him amass 20 goals last season -- all in open play, no penalties -- was clearly lacking as the Impact opened with losses of 3-2 in Dallas, 1-0 in Houston and 2-0 to Seattle in their home opener at Olympic Stadium last week. The 38-year-old, who will see his first action Saturday when the Impact play the Union in Philadelphia, cautioned that he cant turn the clubs fortunes around on his own. It will be his first competitive game in five months. "I hear that people are expecting us to get points because me and Romero are returning, but its not just two players that are going to change everything," he said. "I have to do my job -- try to score and be dangerous -- but the most important thing is that the team keeps its confidence because when you lose a game, sometimes you think what youre doing on the field is no good. I see every day the team is training really well, with a good attitude." Andrew Wenger filled in for Di Vaio up front and had a goal against Dallas, but for the most part, the Impact created plenty of chances that went wanting for someone with the goal-scorers knack. Montreal leads MLS with 57 shot attempts and 20 shots on goal, with midfielder Felipe Martins at the top with 13 shots. Defender Heath Pearce only joined the Impact this season, but the former New York Red Bull knows what Di Vaio can bring to a match. "Hes a great goal scorer and hes a really busy and active player on the field," said Pearce. "Its always good to have someone like that who always wants the ball -- a guy who gets mad when he doesnt get the ball all the time. "Thats the kind of guy you want making big plays in the tough moments for your team." The suspension stemmed from an ugly 3-0 loss in Houston in the Impacts first MLS playoff match in October. Late in the game, Romero touched off a skirmish by kicking an opponent. Di Vaio took a red card when he jumped into the fracas. It wasnt clear whether Romero will play in Philadelphia, but his return gives coach Frank Klopas an extra option. The Argentine played mainly on the left wing last season. "Its never easy for players being out, especially when you look at Marco," said Klopas. "Its kind of crazy, the three-game suspension he got, but his attitude has been great and hes worked extremely hard." The Union may be the ideal opponent for Di Vaio, who scored four times in three matches against them last season, including a hat-trick in a 5-3 win on May 25 in Montreal. The Americans, skipped by John Shuster, seized the advantage in the eighth end by scoring five points for a 7-3 lead. The Czechs pulled two back in the ninth, but Shusters team of third Jeff Isaacson, second Jared Zezel and lead John Landsteiner ended with another point to secure the last Olympic berth on offer. http://www.hockeyavalanche.com/authentic...alanche-jersey/. The future hall of famers stole the show at the Bell Centre on Tuesday night, with Jagr moving into seventh place in all-time goal scoring and Brodeur stopping 29 shots as the Devils downed the Montreal Canadiens 4-1. In the second game of their day/night doubleheader at Minneapolis, three Blue Jays pitchers, Steve Delabar, Sergio Santos and J.PHILADELPHIA - Former Phillies pitcher J.A. Happ gets a chance to face his former club tonight when the Toronto Blue Jays continue their trip through Pennsylvania with a stop in Philadelphia. Happ will make his first start of the season and has made three appearances out of the bullpen, allowing two runs and three hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. A sore back landed Happ on the DL to start the season. Happ has four Ks and five walks on the season and the Blue Jays have lost all three games the left-hander has competed in. He played with the Phillies from 2007 through parts of 2010 before being traded to Houston, and has won both of his starts in this series, accumulating a 2.19 ERA in 12 1/3 frames. Toronto is coming off a 7-2 victory of the Pirates on Sunday. Colby Rasmus belted a grand slam in the second inning and finished with three hits and two runs scored. Melky Cabrera also had three hits, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning, for the Blue Jays, who won for just the third time in the last 11 games. Dustin McGowan was solid on the mound for the Jays, tossing seven innings of one-run ball and allowing just three hits with five strikeouts and three walks. "It was good to get a win for this team," said McGowan. "It was something we needed and maybe it will give us a little boost going forward." The Blue Jays are 2-4 on an eight-game road trip and will return to Rogers Centre later this week to start a nine-game homestand. They will start the stay with two games versus the Phillies. Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista has reached base in all of his 31 games this season and is batting .294 with nnine homers and 20 RBI.dddddddddddd. The Phillies and Blue Jays are meeting for the first time since Toronto won all three games at home back in 2012. The Jays are in south Philly for the first time since losing two of three games from June 25-27, 2010. Philadelphia trails the slumping Atlanta Braves, losers of six straight, by only 1 1/2 games for the NL East lead and took a three-game series from the rival Washekend. In Sundays 1-0 win in the rubber match, Chase Utleys RBI single stood as the winning run and scored Jimmy Rollins, who stroked a one-out triple. Utley has reached base safely in each of his last 12 games. Phillies starter Roberto Hernandez pitched very well to the tune of seven shutout innings of four-hit ball with three strikeouts and three walks. "I think hes gotten better as weve gone along as far as command and control and really using his pitches," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said of Hernandez. Mike Adams and Antonio Bastardo got the final two outs in the eighth and closer Jonathan Papelbon worked around a hit in the ninth to post his ninth save. The Phillies have won eight of their last 12 games and will send Kyle Kendrick to the mound versus the Blue Jays. Kendrick is still searching for his first win of the season and has an 0-2 record with a 3.52 earned run average in five starts. The Phillies are 2-3 in that time. Kendrick did not figure into the decision of a 7-3 win at Los Angeles on April 24 and allowed just two runs on 10 hits and a walk over 5 2/3 frames. He has given up at least two runs in each of his past four starts (11 total). ' ' '
